Vic’s Pics – Santorini, Greece

Santorini, also known as Thira, is part of the Cyclades island group and sits in the Aegean Sea, approximately halfway between Athens and Crete. Sail across crystal blue waters and gaze at the white-washed houses making this Greek island a perennial favorite to visit. With ancient villages such as Oia and Thira, there’s plenty to do on this scenic island ranging from relaxing on its sandy beaches to exploring archeological sites and even wineries. There are cliff side bars to enjoy a sunset cocktail and wineries to visit and sample. Santorini is mostly lauded for its dry whites and dessert wine known as Vinsanto. Santorini also has its own version of Pompeii from an ancient volcanic eruption from centuries ago. More than 30 buildings have been excavated and preserved from the Bronze Age. Visitors can explore the sidewalks, pottery, and underground sewage systems. Only 3% of the area has been dug up at this time. Also, visit the Museum of Prehistoric Thira where other artifacts are on display including opulent furniture, colorful ceramics, and wall frescoes.

There are numerous hotels and villas to accommodate your stay. The Grace Santorini sits perched on a cliff with breathtaking views of the island. At the Katikies Hotel enjoy its infinity pools with sweeping views of the Caldera.
