The Arctic Circle and the Northern Lights

On many people’s bucket list is the opportunity to view the Northern Lights in an exotic location. Why not explore the Arctic Circle from one of these gorgeous Scandinavian countries this winter?

Norway
Head to Norway with 300 Alaskan huskies and visit an Aurora Camp where you will sit around an open fire in a traditional Sami hut. You’ll dine on typical Norwegian cuisine and wait for the lights to appear. Your professional guides will take you on a tour with your cuddly friends. This tour is open from October 23-March 25.

Sweden
Trek through the surrounding area of Abisko National Park in a luxury vehicle where your professional guide will provide an excursion on wheels as you hunt for the Northern Lights.

You’ll have a lesson on aurora photography and see the shorelines of Lake Torneträsk as well as enjoy sweeping views of Bear Mountain which is near the border of Sweden and Norway. This excursion is available from October to February.

In Abisko, Sweden, you’ll cruise Abisko National Park in a reindeer skin-lined sled pulled by a snowmobile. Your guides will take you to remote areas not accessible by car. This three-hour experience is open from December to the end of March.

In Kiruna, horseback ride through a hundred-year-old forest set against a mountain. Explore the wildlife such as moose. Upon your return to the stables, guests are served dinner comprised of local specialties such as game or fish. After, while sitting around the fire in a traditional sami hut, learn about nature, animals, and the local culture. This experience is available from October to April 7.

Finland
Join professional photography guides who will take you in search of the Northern Lights in the Rovaniemi area. This trek is from December to mid-April.

Lapland, Finland
Besides staying in a heated glass igloo under the Northern Lights, jump in a sled with reindeer leading the way as you explore the winter wonderland forest in the Lapland area.

Alaska: Chasing the Northern Lights at This Chalet

If you are looking for the Aurora Borealis, then consider a stay at the luxury five-star property Sheldon Chalet located in Alaska in the Denali National Park. The chalet, which opened in February 2018, is situated on a remote glacier 6,000 feet above the Don Sheldon Amphitheater on Denali’s Ruth Glacier and offers activities during the Northern Lights season (September 15, 2018 – April 3-, 2019). Guests can expect to enjoy panoramic views of the Northern Lights. The chalet has five bedrooms and is located on five acres. Note – the chalet is only accessible via helicopter from Anchorage or Talkeetna.

Among the activities guests can choose include: hot spring excursions, heli-skiing, snowshoeing, and helicopter tours. Given the chalet’s high altitude and location, it is the ideal spot to see the lights. The chalet includes a chef who prepares gourmet food, beverages, a concierge, a helicopter for transportation, gear, and guides.
