Travel Trends 2019: What to Expect
Technology with Biometric Check-In
Soon passengers will identify themselves with biometric check-in at airports in which a person’s identity will be confirmed via facial, retinal or fingerprint recognition. Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport has opened the first all-biometric terminal in partnership[ with Delta Air Lines. Ultimately, biometrics can replace your ID including boarding pass. The focus is to save time and offer greater security.
Adventure Travel
Adventure travel with adrenaline-pumping activities continues to grow in popularity. Whether it’s climbing a mountain in Iceland with Bear Grylls or rappelling in a cave in Cambodia, travelers are looking for educational experiences and lessons in local culture.
Virtual Reality Visit
Can’t get away for your next jaunt around the world? Consider a virtual tour and explore remote regions of Jerusalem and Nepal as examples. Companies are offering VR headsets to showcase WOW details with lots of possibilities. For some it’s also a great way to determine if they really want to try an experience or visit the region.
Floating Cities
As developers continue to “launch” man-made floating islands not subject to the laws of any country, marine biologists, scientists and politicians will also encourage eco-tourism. In French Polynesia, a private island will be completed by 2022. Visitors will stay in underwater rooms with glass walls.
Space
Special launches and hotels in outer space are all the rage in the near future as SpaceX’s Elon Musk and Virgin Galactic’s Richard Branson race to space with trips to the moon and private hotels. Visitors want to explore the International Space Station for a mere $20 million. Virgin Galactic plans to offer short spaceflights for only $250,00 which will hover 50 miles above the Earth’s surface.
